High Sheriff in Nomination for 2018-19
Sue was born in Yorkshire and after graduating worked as a teacher in challenging schools in Yorkshire before leaving to support her husband Edward in his Royal Air Force Career. The couple moved house 17 times before settling in Edith Weston in the mid-1990s. Overseas tours of duty included two and a half years working in the British Embassy in Moscow at the height of the cold war and similar lengths of time at Headquarters RAF Germany near Monchengladbach and the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe near Mons in Belgium. When based in Moscow, Sue travelled widely, observing and reporting on life in the former USSR and its satellites.
Throughout her association with the Royal Air Force, she worked to support Service families and communities; work included creating childcare facilities, setting up and teaching in Riding for the Disabled stables and running various other family support groups. Since settling in Rutland, she has resumed a specialist teaching role and has filled many local charitable posts including the Chair of the Edith Weston Village Hall Committee, Chair of Governors at Edith Weston Primary School and Chair of the Rutland Friends of Cancer Research. She looks forward very much to the post of High Sheriff of Rutland and the opportunities it will present to meet people and to support local causes. Her passions are horses, skiing, travel - and Leicester Tigers! She has two sons, Rupert and Edward.
