Christopher Armstrong

Chaplain to the High Sheriff

The High Sheriff’s Chaplain this year is Christopher Armstrong who runs a five parish Benefice based at Barrowden, the home village of Craig Mitchell. Christopher and his wife Geraldine moved to Rutland in June 2016 to take up this half-time post as part of their move towards retirement.

Previously Christopher was Dean of Blackburn which he regarded as the best job in the Church of England. The contrast in location is vast but they live in a very comfortable rectory with uninterrupted views across the Welland Valley. He is learning the ropes of rural ministry but has a nose for getting down to the nitty gritty of life. In Lancashire, that involved working with those who shaped the community, local and national. Here in Rutland it involves and engagement of the farming community and those who relate directly to it for they are the stewards of the countryside upon which the rest of us rely.
